Project: Effect of local and landscape characteristics on the occupancy of the black lion-tamarin
Abstract: Through population census, it is possible to determine the status of conservation of species and identify local and landscape characteristics affecting their occupancy. The black lion-tamarin (BLT, Leontopithecus chrysopygus) is an endemic species of the Atlantic Forest of the State of Sao Paulo. Due to its small size, dark coloration, fast locomotion and low density, it is considered a cryptic species. The objective of this study was to determine local and landscape characteristics affecting the occupancy of the BLT in the municipality of Guarei (Sao Paulo), where the species has been recently registered, using playback in 16 sampling sites, for three months, once a month. We determined the occupancy and detection probabilities through occupancy models with the PRESENCE software, through the standard-single-season model.
