Project title: Primate nutritional ecology and movement in fragmented landscapes.

Abstract: Daily foraging decisions shape primate movement, influenced by dietary strategies like folivory, frugivory, and faunivory. These strategies determine how primates balance nutrient intake with travel costs and risks. Although primate nutrition and movement are well studied, few works address how resource quality and distribution affect route planning. Our goal in this project is to examine how different types of resource influence movement decisions in Central and South American primates. Using published and unpublished data, we will compare movement patterns across species with varying diets. We will then focus on the black lion tamarin (BLT) to investigate how environmental context shapes movement decisions. At a local scale, we’ll assess how fruit distribution and nutritional value influence BLT foraging. Finally, we will use step selection models to evaluate how nutritional, environmental, and social factors affect BLT space use.
